Gintoki Sakata expected a lazy evening at the summer festival until Toshiro Hijikata — the chain-smoking Shinsengumi vice-commander he loves to needle — turns up looking for him, and their familiar bickering over sausages-on-sticks and taxpayer money quickly gives way to something hungrier. Dragged behind the festival grounds into the dark, Hijikata stammers that anyone could walk by even as Gintoki sinks down and takes him into his mouth, and what follows is a sweaty, breathless outdoor tryst between two proud men who can't keep their hands to themselves. The punchline lands in the afterglow, when Hijikata realizes his partner came to the festival without any underpants at all — and Gintoki's deadpan excuse about dropped clothing is the perfect cap to their heated reunion.
